ING Real Estate Development had the task of renovating, extending and diversifying the Woensel shopping centre in Eindhoven. The Municipality of Eindhoven had set a requirement for adding residential floors. This resulted in three new residential buildings that dominate the shopping centre like three musketeers. The most striking of these is the 101-metre Porthos residential block that stands like a beacon in the city and lends the shopping centre a new identity. Athos, a 9-floor residential building on a commercial plinth, stands on the green axis of Het Hool. Aramis is a low-rise residential block on the new shopping axis. All three residential blocks bear the same signature. Together they add a new layer to the shopping centre and inject more life into the centre in the evening hours.
The project received a lot of positive publicity and two nominations for exceptional shopping centres, both nationally and internationally. The design won theBetonprijs (Concrete Prize) in 2007.
