In 1991, Engelman Architecten were asked by MAB Projectontwikkeling (now Bouwfonds Projectontwikkeling) to design a prestigious retail project with parking garage in Zaandam. The new shopping centre would have to raise the level and the selling power of the old centre. Shoppers would have to remain in Zaandam instead of going to Amsterdam or Alkmaar.
To add grandeur to shopping, the building was given a high arcade. Above this floor was constructed a parking garage for 450 cars. We constructed a link between the Gedempte Gracht, the Tsaar Peter Plein and the Rozenhof to give shoppers a tour of the city.
