The concept of the Woensel shopping centre in Eindhoven, dating from 1970, had had its day. Moreover, surrounded by a car park for approximately 2,000 cars, it had an introverted character. Access was hidden and because the centre was exclusively for shopping, there was a lot of vandalism after closing time. In spite of this image, in economic terms the centre did pretty well but the entrepreneurs were concerned about the competition from retail developments in the centre of Eindhoven.
In the old shopping area, the shopping route ran hither and thither. In extending the centre with new shops, we created a shopping route with large, inviting entrances and high glass canopies.
A big compliment for the developer, designer and builders came from the 125 shopkeepers that could continue to do good business during the entire building process.
